ICCR Scholarship programme - 2019-20

High Commission of India invites applications from eligible Mozambican and Eswatini candidates for educational scholarships in Indian universities for the academic year 2019-20. The scholarships are administered through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

Applicants are advised to do due diligence & research about the universities and courses, and ensure that they fulfill the specific admission criteria laid down by various Universities/Institutes listed in the scholarship scheme. The list of universities is available on the same link.

A few important points regarding the Indian scholarships are as below:

a) ICCR will bear the cost of return economy class air-fares to the nearest airport in India (and 3rd class AC train fare from there to the city of study, if required), tuition fees, monthly allowance, hostel accommodation and medical benefits as per the guidelines under the scheme. In case of scholars pursing science courses, the expenditure on laboratory chemicals and other related incidental charges will have to be borne by the scholars themselves.

ICCR scholarship holders will have to stay in hostel/ accommodation provided by the institute/University throughout the duration of the course. No request to stay out of accommodation provided by the University/ college would be accepted.

ICCR, as a policy, does not permit mid-term changes of Courses, College or University (with the exception of medical emergency). Applicants are advised to go through the courses offered by the Universities carefully before finally submitting the application form.

Applicants must be between the age of 18 to 30 years at the time of applying. Age limit is increased only for Ph.D students from 30 to 45 years.

Medium of instruction is English in all the Universities in India, therefore, applicants should be able to fluently speak in English and comprehend lessons in English without any difficulty. The High Commission of India may choose to administer an English proficiency test for the shortlisted candidates.

Applicants should have scored good marks in each of the core subjects for the course that they are applying Candidates applying for an engineering/Technology undergraduate course must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in their 12th grade.

All candidates are required to upload the following documents during the application process (by clicking on the relevant links on the online application form):

  • A recent passport size photograph not more than 3.5x4.5cm (25kb). The photograph should be front facing with white background and without spectacles.

  • A scan of their signature.

  • A scanned copy of the Physical fitness certificate, duly signed and scanned by registered doctor (the format of the certificate can be downloaded from

  • Copies of all academic qualifications, certificates and marksheets, including those relating to school leaving examination. (Marks/Grade Card of Higher Secondary should be Equivalent to Grade XII in India)

  • English Translation of all Portuguese documents. The translation should be done by government authorised translators (if documents are in Portuguese)

  • Age Proof (Birth CerAge limit for Ph.D students exclusivety, is being relaxed from 30 to 45 years.

  • Certificate /Any Unique Identity issued by the Government indicating clear date of Birth)

  • If available, copy of valid International passport (Front & Back Pages giving details of Personal Particulars & residence address)

  • In case of M. Phil /Ph.D/Post Doctoral courses, a synopsis of the research proposal.                       

  • In case of applicants wishing to pursue performing arts courses, a recent Video/Audio/YouTube link of their performance.

  • Age limit for Ph.D students exclusively, is being relaxed from 30 to 45 years.
