Visit of Indian Naval Ship Sunayna to Beira Port, Mozambique
[28-30 June 2023]

PRESS RELEASE

          INS Sunayna, an Indian Naval Ship based at  Southern Naval Command in Kochi, entered the port of Beira, Mozambique on 28 June 2023. Upon arrival, the ship was received by Charge d’Affaires Naresh Kumar, Captain Atul Sapahia, DA Pretoria, Commandant NRN Siva Babu, Coast Guard Afloat Support Team and Officers from Mozambique Navy.

            The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing maritime cooperation between the navies of both the countries. It demonstrates the Indian Navy's outreach to friendly maritime nations. During the visit, personnel of both the navies will engage in a wide range of interactions including subject matter expert exchanges, social outreach activities, joint yoga session and sports, to further strengthen their bonds of friendship. The ship will also be conducting a medical outreach camp for the local populace of Beira.  On completion of Harbour phase, the ship is scheduled to conduct a joint patrol in the exclusive economic zone of Mozambique in consonance with the India's Vision SAGAR - Security and Growth for all in the Region.

            Indigenously built INS Sunyana is a stealth offshore patrol vessel constructed at Goa shipyard Limited and is fitted with state of art weapon and sensor package. She is routinely deployed for many operations such as anti-piracy and anti-narcotics patrol, SAR, HADR, surveillance and escort missions. She is equipped with an indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter onboard.
