Celebration of 8th International Day of Yoga in Mozambique

People of Mozambique participated in overwhelming numbers across the length and breadth of this beautiful country at the Yoga sessions organized by the High Commission of India in Maputo to celebrate the 8th International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2022.

2. The theme for the 8th International Day of Yoga was “Yoga for Humanity”, chosen meticulously to reflect the efforts of the entire human race to recover from the once-in-a-century Covid-19 pandemic.

3. The celebrations of the 8th International Day of Yoga in Mozambique were held in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Maputo in Maputo on June 19, 2022 at Parque dos Continuadors as also on June 20, 2022 in front of the iconic building of the Municipal Corporation. Hon’ble Minister of Health of Mozambique, H.E. Mr. Armindo Daniel Tiago kindly graced the Yoga session at Parque dos Continuadores as the Chief Guest. The Member of the Council for Education and Sports of the Municipal Corporation of Maputo was the Chief Guest for the Yoga session in front of the Municipal Corporation building. Besides, Yoga enthusiasts in Nacala, Nampula, Beira, Tete and Xai Xai joined together to undertake the Common Yoga Protocol as part of the commemoration of the 8th edition of the UN-designated International Day of Yoga
that was unanimously adopted at the UNGA in 2014.

4. The Yoga sessions reflected the desire of the people of Mozambique to stay not only physically and mentally fit, but also to develop the immunity that is required for remaining disease and stress free. In the words of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi, “Yoga is good for the community, immunity and unity. It is a beautiful practice for the wellness of one’s physique, mind and spirits. It is a journey of the discovery of the self as it links one’s soul with mother Earth and nature”. People of Mozambique reiterated their resolve to uphold the aforesaid virtues of Yoga during the 8th International Day of Yoga in this country.
