Indian Naval Ship Trikand at Maputo (27 March 2026)

Indian Naval Ship Trikand is currently on a three-day visit to Maputo, Mozambique from 26-29 March 2026 as part of its ongoing overseas deployment to Africa, underscoring India’s commitment to maritime cooperation with friendly nations in its immediate and extended neighbourhood.

Over the last one year, eight ships from the Indian Navy and Coast Guard have made port-calls to Mozambique’s coastal cities of Maputo, Beira and Nacala, reflecting deep historical ties and strong maritime cooperation between the two nations.

The current visit is considered significant as INS Trikand has brought essential medicines and relief material for the flood victims of central and southern Mozambique. Besides, 500 MT of rice will shortly arrive from India to further augment the humanitarian assistance. This coincides with the delivery of the last tranche of USD 1 million of medicines donated by India to Mozambique.

The visit of INS Trikand will witness bilateral engagements and joint training activities in the form of fire-fighting and damage control exercises, VBSS, navigation and bridge/MCR integration, diving operations, amongst others. In addition, outreach activities such as yoga session, cultural programme, ship tour for Indian diaspora and school children, medical camp and friendly sports engagements are being planned. The ship visit will culminate in Joint Surveillance of Mozambique’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
