The Fifth Joint Defence Working Group (JDWG) meeting between India and Mozambique was held from 1-2 April 2026 in Maputo. The Indian delegation was led by Joint Secretary Shri Amitabh Prasad and included senior representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Indian Armed Forces and Indian Coast Guard. High Commissioner of India to Mozambique Shri Robert Shetkintong and India’s Defence Attache also joined the meeting. The Mozambican delegation was headed by Mr. Casimiro Augusto Muieo, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of National Defence.
The meeting saw fruitful discussions on strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries. During the deliberations, both sides undertook a comprehensive review of the progress made since the previous JDWG meeting and charted out a forward-looking roadmap for defence engagement. Discussions focused on expanding structured military exchanges, strengthening joint training opportunities, enhancing maritime domain awareness, conducting military exercises and promoting collaboration in supply of defence equipment.
The meeting reaffirmed the strong ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to regional security and stability.
