Following the devastating floods in central and southern Mozambique in January 2026, Government of India had decided to donate rice, medicines, hygiene kits & essential relief material in support of people affected by the floods, reflecting the enduring spirit of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
Last week, 500 MT of rice consignment was delivered to Maputo, after some unavoidable logistics delay. H.E. Ms. Maria de Fatima Simao Manso, Hon’ble Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Mozambican Communities Abroad, representatives of the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction and High Commissioner of India attended the formal handing over ceremony in Maputo.
Earlier (27 March 2026), Indian Naval Ship Trikand had delivered 12 MT of essential relief material, hygiene kits and medicines, which was received by the Hon’ble Health Minister of Mozambique.
High Commission of India in Maputo had appealed to Indian Community Organizations, companies and nationals to generously contribute for the people affected by floods. In collaboration with Maputo Municipal Council, we donated food items for 200 families in Maputo. In collaboration with Marracuene Municipal Council, we distributed food and clothing items for 300 families in Marracuene. Also, we delivered rice and food items to Gaza province and distributed food items for 70 families in Moamba and 36 families in Sabie.
