Following the devastating floods in Mozambique, Government of India has decided to donate rice, medicines and essential relief material in support of our sisters and brothers affected by the floods in Mozambique, reflecting the enduring spirit of friendship and solidarity between the two countries.
Government of India will be donating 500 MT of Rice. The consignment is expected to be dispatched from India during the month of February. Also, Indian Naval Ship will be delivering essential relief material including medicine, hygiene kits and shelter kits. Meanwhile, 86 MT of saving medicines were already dispatched from India and the consignment is expected to arrive in Maputo in the coming days. This is the third and final trance of medical consignment dispatched from India, and is arriving at a difficult time in Mozambique and will augment the country’s healthcare capabilities.
High Commission of India has appealed to Indian Community Organizations, companies and nationals to generously contribute for the people affected by flood. In collaboration with Maputo Municipal Council, we donated essential food items for about 200 families in a locality affected by flood in Maputo. In collaboration with Marracuene Municipal Council, we distributed food and clothing items for 300 families affected by flood in Marracuene. In collaboration with the Mayor of Xai Xai, we will be donating rice and food items in Xai Xai.
Separately, High Commission of India will be donating ambulances to the Ministry of National Defence. These are being procured out of Defence Diplomacy Fund of the Indian Army and will augment FADM’s capacity in Combat Medical Domain. Also, there is proposal to donate containerized shooting ranges to FADM, reaffirming India’s commitment towards capacity building of FADM guided by Mozambican needs and priorities.
