International Day of Yoga celebrations in Mozambique (21 June 2026)

June 22, 2026

In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to commemorate 21st June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY).  Since then, the High Commission of India in Maputo has taken the initiative to celebrate IDY in Mozambique.

For the past years, yoga enthusiasts in Mozambique have been participating in the celebrations. We have been holding yoga sessions in schools, universities, offices and factories across many cities and towns in Mozambique.

This year, High Commission of India organised the main International Day of Yoga celebrations at the Parque dos Continuadores in Maputo. More than 1800 yoga enthusiasts participated in the yoga session. The theme of this year’s IDY was Yoga for Healthy Ageing. Yoga, in its forms of exercise, breathing & meditation, is a complete system that brings our bodies, minds, and the outside world into harmony. Yoga immensely helps us in developing healthy lifestyle.

We would like to thank yoga experts and volunteers for guiding us, and our generous partners for supporting us. Without the support of our benevolent partners, we would not have been able to organize today’s event. As part of IDY celebrations in Mozambique, 118 yoga sessions were held in Maputo, Matola, Xai Xai, Inhambane, Maxixe, Beira, Tete, Quelimane, Nampula, Nacala and Pemba.
