International Day of Yoga celebrations in Mozambique (22 June 2025)

June 22, 2025

In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to commemorate 21st June as the International Day of Yoga (IDY).  Since then, the High Commission of India in Maputo has taken the initiative
to celebrate IDY in Mozambique.

2.         For the past years, yoga enthusiasts in Mozambique have participated in the celebrations. We have been holding yoga sessions in schools, universities, offices, factories, health clubs and hospitals across many cities and towns in Mozambique.

3.         This year, High Commission of India in collaboration with Maputo Municipal Council organised the main International Day of Yoga celebrations at the Independence Square in Maputo. More than 1600 yoga
enthusiasts participated in the yoga session.

4.         The theme of this year’s IDY is Yoga for One Earth, One Health.  Yoga, in its forms of exercise, breathing & meditation, is a complete system that brings our bodies, minds, and the outside world into harmony – mind, body & soul. Yoga immensely helps us in developing healthy lifestyle. And for the society at large, it brings harmony between humanity and nature - fostering a consciousness of unity, of being one, of being together.

5.         We would like to thank Maputo Municipal Council for jointly celebrating the event. A big thank you to yoga experts and volunteers for guiding us, and our generous partners for supporting us. Without the support of our benevolent partners, we would not have been able to organize today’s event.

6.         As part of IDY celebrations in Mozambique, 162 yoga sessions were held in Maputo, Matola, Xai Xai, Inhambane, Maxixe, Beira, Tete, Quelimane, Nampula, Nacala and Pemba.
